Gerry Lenaghan writes (May 2010) : "The Tweed has been in flood several times this year. You can see how the grass has been flattened but it has been much higher than that. It was in fact over the pathway and even the wooden benches and into the field behind. The tell tale signs were the twigs, grasses and debris intertwined in the slats of the benches on the riverbank. Beyond the swing bridge on the right hand side the river had swollen and then gone down again trapping quite a number of huge salmon which lay scattered, half eaten with smug looking herons standing around." |
