B roome Hall 1961 / 62

(L-R) : (help required with identification)

Jim Connolly writes : '
I believe that the first three from the left were Dutch "cleric" novices and the fourth (holding the knife) is Maurice Cunningham. The fifth (eating the cake) was a "brother" novice. '

Kees Neeft writes (November 2007) :
" I just received a message from Wim Hofman (nowadays in Holland known among
others as a writer of books for children (p.e. "Wim"). He recognized himself as the one
utmost left (a part of his head andhand); next to him (second left) is Jan Bruins ; on the background left is a drawing of Wim Hofman: angel with banjo. "

On the lough at Blacklion
1961

Mike Mearns writes : "The crew is Joe Mullen in the prow, me at the for’ard oar, Larry Shine in the light coloured sweater, Charlie Bingham beside him and Eric Creaney immediately behind him. I think Maurice Cunningham is in the stern.

This is the first voyage of the new boat ( the hulk on the left is the old boat), immediately after it was blessed (and all who sail in her !) by Jack Maguire, the Superior at that time. I believe that we sang Star of the Sea as the hymn. What number was that in the Westminster Hymnal ?*

*Hymn Number 101, Ave Maris Stella, I suspect :

"Star of ocean lead us ;
God for mother claims thee ;
Ever-Virgin names thee ;
Gate of Heaven, speed us."

(Maybe this was an ocean-going rowing boat).

The quality is not the best — but it's still a great photo.
Mike Mearns writes :
" This is Bud Greene's living room. I’m not sure of the occasion. It could have been England v Scotland, which was at Wembley on 15 April 1961 - but why is Danny smiling ? "
