Vale Father Patrick Shanahan WF

A true leader from the beginning. Was he the only one of our class to go the distance? I have fond memories of him trying to teach me to sprint on the Priory cricket pitch. Sadly I lacked the fast twitch muscles and apparently had a heart defect, but he tried for me.

I was about to thank Paul and Peter Finn for the interesting piece on Fr Smith, but clearly thanks are do to another Peter as well as our inimitable Paul for sterling work on the MB! Let's hope you've

cracked it! Though I've been cut off mid-sentence just now!

Peter has given me a great deal of help with solving this Message Board problem—and at the same time has given us all some some interesting news from his home in Tasmania. Many thanks, Peter /Prof. and best wishes for a good recovery.

I have solved this MB problem so that it works at my end, but am working on a solution for us all.
Hope to be back soon with the answer.

Why provide a second box?

Message Limilts

Hi I ran a test with my last couple of posts and discovered that the limit for the first box is 200 characters including spaces and the limit for the second box is probably 1000 characters. In order to avoid frustration I suggest writing your missive in Word where you can do a character count then copy and paste it into the BraveNet box as we would all like to hear from you. Thanks for the site Paul.

Another day in Paradise - Tasmania

Watchers of "A Place in The Country" often have a blissful view of peace and tranquillity. In UK and Eire that may be so however where distances are real - my nearest mainland client is further than Moscow from London - one needs to be self-sufficient. My handyman training was nil, Brothers did all that stuff. Now I can strip a pump, fix a fence, fell a tree etc. and have a range of tools resembling a hardware store.
Yesterday as I finished showering a loud bang followed by a shout from my wife "why is there no hot water" indicated my quiet day was over before it had begun. As I was Au Naturel she raced down in the aptly named slippers and promptly skidded in the mud under the house as the hot water system sprayed 70C water. A pox on the plumber that used a compression fitting instead of a proper Yorkshire Solder ring joint. Prof to the rescue and an hour later a showered wife left for work.

Wonders of Modern technology

I am going gangbusters after a triple bypass 18 months ago and officially join the ranks of coffin chasers next month. Apparently three score and ten is now 75 :-) On a serious note if you have what seems like dyspepsia but too high for the stomach do not wait go to hospital immediately. It is a heart attack. My doctor was none too pleased that I waited over night the first time. Luckily an emergency stent fixed that. The second time it was only short but I went anyway and an angiogram led direct to the triple. Modern technology for you, 40 years ago I would have been dead.

The second box is still a mystery because one can enter and preview at least 1000 but they will disappear when you post. Thanks for your efforts Paul

This is my first time posting here, so it's mainly a query.
I'm one of the late Geddes Gerry's nieces and have noticed that in some of your photos on the site, you have him either 'mislabeled', or not there at all in the photo. How would I go about getting these corrected please?
I've thoroughly enjoyed reading the history section and looking at the photos; including some of my uncle that i'd not seen before!
I hope someone can advise me on how to go about submitting the corrections. Many thanks, Carol Gerry.

Our thanks to Robbie Dempsey, who sent the following update this week:

"I visited the Missionaries of Africa at Templeogue, Dublin, last Saturday and said hello to Eugene Lewis and Fr. Sean O'Leary. Vincent O'Neill was also there from Mullingar.

We had a splendid Mass and commemoration for John Byrne. His family were very appreciative of this.

Mass was celebrated by Fr. John Paul - a Congolese WF who had just
that morning arrived from Bukavu via Johannesburg and Addis Ababa.
HE told me they live in perpetual fear from the marauding rebels in Eastern
Congo. HE met John in Dublin many times a few years ago."
