"Monday, 8th July
Sat in our woods and made this small painting of the view
last
night. Three of us went for a walk and sat on the top
of the orange hill. All very lovely until we heard the bell
bell ringing for
Compline and we were at least 15 minutes walk from the house.
We entered the chapel for the last psalm and one of us
apolologetically
showed his watch, which had stopped after
6.05 pm, to Father Superior. He responded by
showing us his own watch, indicating
7.05 pm!
We took our places for benediction.
Have just been swimming in the Mediterranean for the first time.
Talk about
Paradise! Not a wave, just the ripple on the sand
and the water as fresh
and as blue as Heaven. We took the
rubber balls and talk about laugh! Salt
in my beard and hair."

The words at the bottom of this picture have been
cut off because I
only have an A4 scanner. (Just a tiny
margin at top and bottom is sometimes missing).
It reads: "Raadskelder" 's-Hertagenbosh.
