Owen writes (9th February 2014):

"This is the Fife contingent, I think, who started at St Boswell's in 1936.

My uncle, Owen Bonner, is front right. If it is 1936 it could be the four students listed on the website, i.e. Owen Bonner 1936-1939, John Dewar 1936, John Flanagan 1936 and Daniel Sherry.

The only one I can be sure of is my uncle. Maybe others will recognise the group."





A collection of interesting photos from Tom Dooley (August 2013)

You may remember Tom from his time at St Columba's (1956-58), The Priory (1958-61),
Blacklion (1961-63), Broome Hall, Vals pres Le Puy.
Tom later attended St Mary's Teacher Training College at Strawberry Hill.

Postcard of Kerlois.

Towards the end of my stay at Blacklion I spent 6 months in a Sanatorium in Dublin.
On my return, Fr Jack Maguire came up with the idea of sending me to the French
house of Philosophy. It was here that my uncle Tom Dooley et al were sent to a prison
near Paris when the house was requisition for R & R for the German U-boat crews.

On the back of the postcard is printed "HENNEBONT (Morbihan), Seminaire de Kerlois"

Taking the Habit, Dorking 1964

Here I am pictured with my uncle, Fr Tom Dooley.
Fr Van den Bosch had made it clear that no photos were to be taken with family members.
Fr Tom came along with a camera and asked if he could take photos. "Of course" was the reply.

I never heard any comments from any of my fellow Novices. (?)

In the centre is the statue of Our Lady, Notre Dame du Puy.
On the right is the Chapel of St Michel.
Both were built on volcanic "Puys".

New Canaan Country Day School CT US

"I taught French and coached Cross-country and Soccer.
As a fall-back before going to the US, I did the FA coaching course.
I did my running at Strawberry Hill — which then (as now) had world-class
athletes. I often wonder what I could have done with some of The Priory
or St Columba's teams, knowing what I have since learned.
It would have been marvelous with all that raw talent."
