Maurice Billingsley emails (March 2008) :

" P309 - next to George Jason in Paris - I wonder, could the little guy be Luigi Morel?

Luigi was 1 or 2 years before me at St Ed's, and was superior there before Josef came over from Switzerland. Why he was in Paris, why George and Vince were in Paris for that matter, I dunno, as Luigi would say in his best Clerkenwell style Engliano.

(How do you shrug your shoulders by email?) "

Vincent O'Neill emails March 25th :

" I have just read Maurice's comment re. Page 309 and I do think that the guy's name was Luigi. George and I were in France that summer to learn/improve our French. We stayed with my dear friend Pere Ghys for six weeks at a White Fathers' house south of Paris near a little village called Moissycramayel. The house seemed to be a place where people (mostly north Africans) who came to France were brought while adjusting to life in France.

The organisation which Pere Ghys set up and ran up to the time of his death is known as A.M.A.N.A . Our trip to France was arranged by Fr. Joe Mullen.

I kept in contact with Pere Ghys thereafter and visited him in Paris. He came to Ireland with a large group and stayed for a few weeks with the help of Fr. Cantwell in 1974. He was Belgian but went to school in England. I have many happy memories of those six weeks.

Sorry for going on—blame Maurice!
